Schnurzz
From UfoWiki
Schnurzz is a light and powerfull do-it-yourself brushless engine. A typical Schnurzz weights about 15-23g and has a maximum thrust of 300-450g.
Powerschnurzz is an improved version of Schnurzz with thicker magnets. That causes 3-5g more weight and more thrust.
A couple of years ago some people had the need for cheap brushless engines. They found in old CDROM drives their parts and rebuild them - the first schnurz was born.
Nowadays Schnurzz motors are sold as a pack of highest quality parts which have to be assembled by the buyer. That is an advantage and disadvantage. Assembling by yourself also includes to glue in the magnets and do the windings, which is both difficult and time consuming work. But when doing the windings by yourself, you can decide if you want to use thin wire (more windings --> lower rpm & more torque, less power) or thick wire (less windings --> higher rpm & less torque, more power) depending on your application. For quadrocopters more windings with thin copperwire are applicable.
Typical sets include:
- 12 magnets 5x5x1 (Schnurzz) or 5x5x1,5 (Powerschnurzz)
- stator 22,7mm
- socket/jacket
- 2 ballbearings
- titanium axle
- painted copperwire 0,3mm-0,6mm
Schnurzz and Powerschnurzz sets are sold from several dealers, the picture above is from CNC Modellsport.
The streetprice of such a set depending on the magnet quality is about €10,- to €20,-
