This page outlines the aims, topics and intended content for this project, as well as giving general guidelines.

[edit] The Idea behind this Wiki

This wiki has been set up:

  • to organize the knowledge that has been accumulated on the German X-UFO forums
  • to present these resources in a way that reduces the amount of "frequently asked questions" on the forums
  • to overcome the language barriers for international visitors by being at least bilingual

[edit] Topics

This wiki should concentrate the following topics:

  • Basics of RC model aircraft design and flight, as far as applicable
  • Silverlit's R/C X-UFO
  • DIY (à la Plottermod) and commercial modifications (à la X-3D) and upgrades for the X-UFO
  • DIY alternatives and projects (of the sort that cropped up on the forums)
  • if anyone cares to do those, also commercial alternatives (Draganflyer, Intellicopter etc.)

Other topics that may be covered:

  • Silverlit's X-Plane, X-Twin and Airlifter models
  • Silverlit's Gyrotor and PiccoZ micro helicopters
  • other indoor or toy aircraft that fall into the same category

[edit] Intended content

Resources that we would like to see integrated into this Wiki:

  • A hierarchical structure with an overview page, individual "portal pages" for each model, and then separate pages for each topic of those models. More levels as needed.
  • Detailed, "newbie-readable" descriptions and explanations of the above devices
  • User documentation, as far as copyright issues are cleared
  • Step-by-step instructions for setting up, using, troubleshooting and repairing the aircraft
  • Instructions and documentation for building DIY mods
  • Detailed technical information for modifications
  • FAQ-style lists with short answers, redirecting to other articles that answer the questions in detail.
  • As far as seems necessary, articles on general RC technology and electronics
  • A "movie portal" that allows a quick overview of existing community videos and viewing/downloading options, as far as they are "historically" important or very enjoyable.
  • Regularly updated news pages detailing e.g. the status of upcoming commercial upgrades in the X-UFO Shop

[edit] Posting tips

  • Use the {{Difficult}} template when you describe a difficult procedure, and the {{Experimental}} template for procedures that have not been thoroughly tested.
  • Do not remove the {{Copyrighted}} template where it exists and do not yourself add articles or material that would require it.
  • [1] shows you what codes you can use to format your pages.

[edit] Commercial issues

This wiki, just like the forum, is not a place for plain advertising. This site is - admittedly - hosted by the X-UFO Shop, which is affiliated with Silverlit. The community therefore concentrates on Silverlit toys and we are most knowledgeable in those, but we are okay dealing with similar toys made by other firms, as long as they are not plain rip-offs infringing on Silverlit's copyrights (or anybody else's, for that matter). Bluntly advertising for anything on this wiki is forbidden. However, linking to Conrad Electronics, Reichelt or similar international shops is allowed where it is needed, e.g. in a repair guide, referring to sources for a replacement part (like the "7805") is ok. There is no need to "censor" these names as they are obvious anyway.
